What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils seem to be all the rage right now, don’t they? I’m sure you know someone who uses them, maybe your neighbor, cousin or high school friend. You probably have read about them in a magazine or that certain celebrities swear by them. They’re kind of everywhere.  So, what exactly ARE they?

They’re not just for smelling!

Essential oils actually AREN’T a new fad. They have been used to support healing for centuries. People have been using plants as medicine since the beginning of time! Essential oils are the life blood of a plant, and when these plants are grown in the right conditions, harvested at the correct time, and distilled with the utmost care (read more about Young Living’s Seed to Seal process here) they can aid in keeping our bodies healthy, well, and happy –  which is how our bodies were intended to be. Essential oils are composed of teeny molecules. These molecules so small that they can pass through our tissues and directly into our cells and can help to support our body’s natural healing systems.

Not all essential oils are created equal!

Those oils you bought at the health food store are usually aromatic-grade oils meant for smelling, not for topical use and most certainly not for internal use. Many store bought oils contain additives or synthetics, despite the misleading “100% pure” labels.  Young Living is the ONLY company with a Seed to Seal guarantee– they grow their own plants from start to finish, own their own farms, and have the strictest standards around. It is so important to know where your oils come from, how they are distilled, and how they are processed. You get what you pay for, and truly pure and natural oils do cost more.

TOPICALLY

Your skin is the largest organ of your body, and applying oils directly to the skin is a great way to target areas of need. Make sure to check the labels for dilution instructions because some oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil (coconut oil, grape-seed oil, organic olive oil, V6 oil, etc.), while others can be applied directly on the skin with no dilution (aka “neat”). A quick way to get oils into your system is by applying to the bottoms of your feet or other pressure points, which is known as the “Vita Flex Technique.”

AROMATICALLY

Inhaling oils heightens the senses and can trigger numerous healing responses in the body, and is the quickest way for your body to use the oils. You can use a variety of diffusers to enjoy the aromatic benefits of oils, simply inhale them straight from the bottle or apply a few drops to your hands and breathe in deeply.

INTERNALLY

Young Living is the only company with a Seed to Seal promise and offers an exclusive Vitality line of oils for ingestion. Add a few drops to your water, put them in a capsule, or add them to your favorite recipe!
